Your Location

An IP can show your city, region, and time zone — often close enough to pinpoint your general area.

Your ISP

It identifies your internet service provider, which can be used to determine your type of connection and region.

Your Online Footprint

Websites can track activity, deliver targeted ads, apply geo-blocks, and log access for security checks.

IP Address FAQs

Clear answers to the most common questions about IP addresses and online privacy.

An IP address (Internet Protocol address) is like your device’s online home address. It’s a unique number that allows other devices and services on the internet to find and communicate with you.

Not exactly. An IP can reveal your general area (like your city or region), but not your precise street address without cooperation from your Internet Service Provider (ISP) and, in most cases, legal authorisation.

You can mask your IP by using a VPN, proxy server, or the Tor Browser. These tools route your traffic through other servers, making it harder for websites and trackers to pinpoint your real location.

It depends. Most home connections use a dynamic IP that changes periodically or when your router reconnects. A static IP remains the same but must be specifically set up with your ISP.

IPv4 addresses are shorter and look like 192.0.2.1. IPv6 addresses are much longer, like 2001:0db8::1, and were introduced to handle the massive growth of internet-connected devices.

Websites use your IP for several reasons: delivering the right content for your region, personalising experiences, tracking usage analytics, enforcing security, and blocking suspicious activity.
